Dresden, August 15, 2018. Managing Director and founder of Fabmatics GmbH (formerly HAP GmbH Dresden), Dr. Steffen Pollack (60), will join the newly founded Advisory Board at the turn of the year. His successor as Managing Director will be Dr. Roland Giesen (49). From 1 January 2019, Dr. Giesen will officially manage the company, which specializes in automation solutions, together with Heinz Martin Esser. Roland Giesen will take over the areas of project management, engineering, production preparation and manufacturing. Sales, marketing, administration and service will remain the responsibility of Heinz Martin Esser.

Roland Giesen comes from the Chemnitz-based technology company 3D-Micromac. As Chief Operating Officer for the laser micromachining specialist, he has been responsible for materials management, project management, production and assembly as well as commissioning and service for the last three years. In addition, Dr. Giesen was appointed Managing Director of 3D-Micromac Laser Technology (Wuxi) Co. in China in 2016. Dr. Giesen received his doctorate in chemistry from RWTH Aachen University. After that, his path led him into industry. At Applied Materials, for example, he worked in international purchasing as well as customer, supplier and service management. At Infineon Technologies in Munich and Dresden and QIMONDA, he was responsible, among other things, for reducing material costs and for parts of production and central purchasing.

“Dr. Giesen has many years of industry experience in operations, supply chain management, production and customer service. In addition, he is very familiar with our core market, the semiconductor industry,” says co-managing director Heinz Martin Esser.

“The industry is like one big family and we’ve known each other for a long time. We know Roland Giesen as an interculturally experienced negotiator and mediator who attaches great importance to lasting good relationships between customers and suppliers. The entire Fabmatics team is looking forward to a fruitful collaboration with him”, adds Dr. Pollack.

Dr. Roland Giesen was presented to the staff at the staff meeting on June 28, 2018. He will start his work at Fabmatics GmbH on September 1, 2018 and get to know the company in an intensive familiarization process. “I am very much looking forward to my new task of expanding and further developing Fabmatics’ leading position as a solution provider for the automation of material flows and handling processes in semiconductor factories and other high-tech production environments,” says Dr. Giesen.

Dr. Steffen Pollack, also co-owner of Fabmatics GmbH, will change immediately to the newly founded Advisory Board and takes over its chairmanship. Further discussions are currently underway with senior industry experts, who are to gradually supplement the Advisory Board. The task of the committee is to promote the strategic corporate development of Fabmatics.

Dr. Steffen Pollack founded HAP Handhabungs-, Automatisierungs- und Präzisionstechnik GmbH Dresden (in short: HAP GmbH Dresden) together with Manfred Jähnert and Lothar Andritzke in 1991. The range of services of HAP GmbH Dresden included robot and automation solutions for the handling of wafers, carriers (transport cassettes of wafers), lithography masks and similar substrates in the semiconductor and electronics industry. From day one, he was Managing Director with a special focus on product development and the support of strategic customers. With the merger of HAP GmbH Dresden with Roth & Rau – Ortner GmbH in September 2016 to Fabmatics GmbH, he also became Managing Director of the new company and holds a 16.7% stake in the company.

About Fabmatics:

Fabmatics GmbH with headquarters in Dresden is an experienced specialist for the automation of material flows and handling processes in semiconductor factories, semiconductor process plants and other high-tech production environments. Fabmatics GmbH emerged in 2016 from the merger of the two companies HAP Handhabungs-, Automatisierungs- und Präzisionstechnik GmbH Dresden and Roth & Rau – Ortner GmbH, which merged with them. Both predecessor companies have their roots in the semiconductor industry, where they have successfully implemented automation projects for over 25 years. This also results in a strong market position in the modernization of 200-millimeter semiconductor factories worldwide. Fabmatics GmbH, including its subsidiary Fabmatics USA Inc. in Sandy (Utah), is active worldwide and currently employs around 190 people. Fabmatics GmbH is a member of the worldwide industry association SEMI, the high-tech network Silicon Saxony e.V. and the AND Automation Network Dresden.
