Product Description – CAN GATEWAY

The CAN GATEWAY connects Fabmatics CAN readers as well as compatible CAN devices to host systems via Ethernet or RS232. Communication is handled via SECS-II/HSMS or SECS-I, enabling standardized integration into fab automation systems.

Fabmatics RFID CAN Gateway with CAN, Ethernet and RS232 interfaces

Replacement of the CAN2WEB Product Generation

The previous RFID gateways CAN2WEB Advanced (MINI, MIDI, and MAXI versions) have been discontinued. The CAN GATEWAY is the direct successor and fully replaces all previous variants.

Existing CAN2WEB installations can be consolidated with the CAN GATEWAY. The previous performance tiers are now covered by a single, unified hardware platform, with different requirements addressed exclusively via external power supply options.

This provides users with:

  • a single replacement device instead of multiple variants,
  • full compatibility with existing CAN applications,
  • additional interfaces and extended application possibilities.

The CAN GATEWAY therefore represents a future-proof platform for both existing and new CAN2WEB applications.

Functions and Features

  • Connects CAN bus devices to Ethernet and RS232 host systems and enables SEMI-compliant integration into fab networks
  • Supports up to 40 CAN readers powered directly via the CAN bus, reducing installation effort
  • With additional power injectors, up to 127 CAN modules can be operated, enabling scalable CAN topologies
  • CAN bus power supply can be controlled via software (on/off), allowing precise handling of service, maintenance, and operational scenarios
  • HDMI and USB interfaces enable connection of displays and input devices for GUI-based applications, e.g. graphical outputs in RFID shelves or touch interactions on systems
  • A web-based configuration interface allows centralized and traceable device management
  • An optional DIN rail adapter with adjustable bracket enables standards-compliant installation in control cabinets and flexible integration into existing system layouts

Benefits for Users

The CAN GATEWAY reduces hardware diversity in the CAN environment and provides a consolidated platform for identification and control applications in semiconductor manufacturing.

  • One device replaces multiple previous gateway variants (CAN2WEB MINI, MIDI, MAXI), simplifying inventory management and replacement
  • Compact design reduces space requirements, e.g. in control cabinets and shelving systems
  • Enables GUI-based applications directly on the CAN system
  • Embedded Linux with up-to-date security updates enhances operational reliability
Application Areas

The CAN GATEWAY and the associated Fabmatics CAN readers are used in semiconductor fabs as well as by equipment manufacturers, including applications such as:

  • RFID shelf systems
  • conveyor systems
  • load ports
  • storage solutions

It aggregates CAN data and makes it available to higher-level automation systems via SEMI-standard interfaces.
